We are working to bring Children's Liturgy of the Word back to Church of the Holy Cross. Volunteers are needed, and as soon as a team can be formed, this program will take place during the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Sunday Masses.
Children ages 5-10 are called forth by the priest and leave the Assembly with a trained Leader to one of the classrooms in the lower level of the Church. A lectionary with the same readings in a language more understandable to children is used to proclaim the First Reading and the Gospel. The Psalm is heard in music written for children, with a simple refrain they can sing. Children reflect on the readings by answering questions from the Leader. Children return at the Offertory after saying a simple Creed.
Altar decorations, banners, and flowers, designed to reflect the seasons of the liturgical year, enhance worship services at Holy Cross. Parishioners with talent in art, interior design, floral arrangements, or sewing are needed. Volunteers are also always needed, weekly or monthly, to wash and iron the linens used at the daily Masses and to assist the Sacristan in many other ways.
Any child in Holy Cross Parish who is in 5th - 12th grade is encouraged to join Altar Servers. Servers are trained to assist the celebrant in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
Parishioners, 16 years of age or older, who feel called to serve the Lord, may assist the priest with the distribution of Communion. Training is required. Training sessions are held at the diocesan level as well as at the parish and are announced in the Sunday bulletin. Some Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are trained to take Communion to the homebound.
Any family, group, or individuals are welcome to take a special part in the liturgy by carrying the gifts to the altar during the Offertory. To be Gift Bearers, sign the sheet on the sacristy door in the church narthex.
Any parishioner, individual or family, can be a special part of the liturgy by welcoming parishioners and guests as they enter the church for the liturgy.
Lectors proclaim the Word of God at Sunday and/or weekday Masses. Training is necessary for any parishioner 15 years of age or older interested in lectoring.
Ushers serve for a month at a time, usually 3 or 4 times a year. Extra ushers are needed for special liturgies and holidays. Training is necessary for parishioners 15 years of age or older.
Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at Holy Cross was initiated on May 7, 1989. An hour in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament promises great blessings. Your committed hour each week assures us of a continuation of Perpetual Adoration. We invite you to call with your committed hour.
These devotions developed as a result of the appearance of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal in 1917. On the first Saturday of each month, the Rosary is recited at 7:05 a.m., followed by Mass at 7:30 a.m. After Mass, a program is presented in the church hall on the subject of Mary, and coffee and donuts are served.
The Charismatic Prayer Groups meets every Monday at 9:30 a.m.
