Meet Our New Music Director
Written by Robert Bacic
Monday, 21 July 2014 10:55

Greetings! My name is JoAnna Rubino, and I am blessed to have been selected as the new director of music here at the Church of the Holy Cross. While I have had the pleasure of meeting many of you already, I look forward to sharing in the music ministry with this ever welcoming congregation and all of its talented musicians! It is an honor to be here and to serve the Holy Cross parish and school communities. I am happy to make new connections and/or adjustments while reinforcing existing traditions and relationships here in the parish and the school.

In the summer of 2012 from the East Coast, my husband and 3 children moved to Overland Park. In Connecticut, I grew up singing in a Catholic church. By the age of 24, I began directing choirs in addition to teaching music and Spanish at a Catholic school as well as giving private lessons in piano and voice. For over 11 years, I substituted at many parishes around the state for weekly masses, funerals and weddings. Although I felt at home in my church community in Connecticut, my husband and I felt the pull of family ties, as most of our relatives live here in the Midwest. By the end of

I must express my gratitude to those who have guided me along so far in this integration process. Your welcoming is a God send and I truly look forward to sharing in the music ministry with you all in every way I can.July, we will be happily settled in a new home out in Olathe and our children will be getting ready to begin a new life in their new schools and community.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns or ideas you may have in regard to the music ministry.

Blessings to all,

JoAnna Rubino

Summer School for Catechists
Written by Robert Bacic
Thursday, 17 July 2014 09:56

Religious education classes ended in the spring, but some catechists kept on working right through the summer.  For the second year, our Holy Cross Religious Education program, in conjunction with the archdiocesan Office of Hispanic Ministry, offered a six-week catechist formation program in June and July.  Their formation program was built around the book, The Catechist’s Toolbox, by Joe Paprocki.  Nineteen catechists worked together to develop a new vision of the catechist as someone who not only informs, but also transforms her or his students.  Everyone was grateful for the opportunity to take part in the training and hopes that the Lord will provide the chance to do it again next summer.
